BLET, Amtrak reach tentative pact
The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen initialed a tentative
contract agreement with Amtrak on July 19, ending a 7-year stalemate.
The tentative agreement would run through September 2010 and provide
wage increases for 1,300 locomotive engineers who operate passenger trains
over Amtrak's 21,000 mile, 46-state route system.

In mid-April, members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and
Trainmen have ratified a single system agreement with CSX Transportation,
according to National Secretary-Treasurer William Walpert, whose office
was responsible for the vote count.
The new single system agreement unifies work rules and pay across three
of the four BLET general committees at CSX and covers approximately 5,500
members. NST Walpert said the contract was ratified by a vote of 1,580 for
and 1,113 against.

Members OK new contract at NYS&W
The agreement, reached in mid-July, was ratified by a 10-to-1 majority.
It provides an immediate increase of 9 percent in the hourly rate of pay
and an additional 9 percent general wage increase over the life of the contract,
which runs through the end of 2010. It also provides for a $5,800 lump sum
benefit payable in three equal installments beginning shortly after ratification
and continuing through 2009. The agreement covers approximately 40 members.

On August 3, President Bush signed into law the "Implementing Recommendations
of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007." Passage of the bill is a milestone
accomplishment for the BLET and all of Rail Labor.
